SCAPE

Design Stage 2: Negotiating Density Settings

SCAPE is an urban sustainability interactive simulation developed for and installed in the newly developed and partly complete Kelvin Grove Urban Village in Brisbane Australia. Visitors move through the ‘actual’ site both before and after they play with the virtual simulator allowing them to compare and reflect on the potential impact of their decisions regarding land use, density, housing types, transport etc. For Schools groups, SCAPE provides tools to understand and apply the concepts of urban sustainability and the process of sustainable decision-making. These tools assist with a process of constant and iterative learning, planning, applying, visualising and reflecting. SCAPE brings together education, urban professional, and technology expertise, helping it simulate real-world scenarios. The 3D environment is built on sophisticated logic and requires considered decision making to provide real time visual, statistical and character satisfaction feedback to the visitors.
